Some Clubs in Northern Metro-Boston

Lawrence

[This from several readers -Olaf]

All these are open on Saturday and Sunday night. I'm not aware of any other nights.
The interesting thing is these places have been around awhile. Way before Latin dance has become with "Euro-Americans"

Punto Final (Broadway)
Reportedly a regular Salsa scene there on Thursdays with Hacha Y Machete (Victor and Burju)
Lessons.
Kind of small but place but I like it. Slightly younger crowd.
After midnight some really, really great dancers show up.
Not hard to find to find someone to dance with.
Small floor.

[Been there on a Thursday.  Check out the dancing Hacha Y Machete on Thursdays, lessons, etc. -Olaf]

Galaxia Night Club, Appleton Street, Lawrence MA.
Two Floors. Mixed Crowd. Music Depends on the day of the weekend you go. Club/Bar/Rest. Big Dance Floor, 2 floors. Nice atmosphere. Cover charge varies. 978-966-0000 [Been there on a Sunday -Olaf]

Grand Hall. Essex Street, Lawrence MA.
New club. Big & Fun. Music varies with the night. Crowd is 20's - 30's. Cover charge also varies.

Leo's Pub. Essex Street, Lawrence MA.
Smaller dance floor. More relaxed atmosphere. Older crowd. No cover or $5 on Saturday nights.

Roca Mar
$5 cover
Crowded! So crowed, everyone spills out onto the street. Interesting situation in the Summer. Younger crowd. There is actullay a Cop stationed in there throwing people out every so often. This place has been around since the late 70's and kind of landmark for the city.
Small floor.

Centro Espanol
$10 cover
Doubles as a restaurant.
Classier place, older crowd.
Small Floor.
This place has been around since at least the early 80's.

8/11/03
"CENTRO ESPANOL IS NOW KNOWN AS CENTRO NIGHT CLUB. THE CROWD THERE IS 20 - 30 YEARS OLD AND WITH THE NEW OPENING THEY REMODELED THE WHOLE THING ITS A VERY NICE CLUB ITS ACTUALLY THE NICEST ONE IN LAWRENCE RIGHT NOW AND THE MOST POPULAR WITH THE THE IN CROWD. THE CLUB IS 18 PLUS AND YOU WILL FIND THE HOTTEST GIRLS AND GUYS FROM LAWRENCE THERE EXCELLENT PLACE TO HOOK UP AND EASY TO FIND SOMEONE TO DANCE WITH. THE MUSIC IS VERY UP TO DATE AND THEY PLAY THE MOST RECENT SALSA MERENGUE AND BACHATA THEY ALSO PLAY A FEW TECHNO SONGS AS WELL AS REGGAE AND HIP HOP"

From another reader:

Metro North:

Club name is incorrect: Rico Mar..the correct name is Roca Mar and is a mixed young and old crowd the music need improving..

Club Punta Final...the correct name is Punto Final..

there is other club in Lawrence that I have attented which is off Essex Street called "Jubilee"..younger crowd

cover charge 5:00 small but quite elegant with policeman but they don't do much. Excellent music though "variety"..One other thing the Central Espanol had been closed for sometime now.

Lowell other places where Latin can have a good time. One is Central St called "El Rinco Azul" very Small bar/dance/pool style Cover charge for dances is 5:00 with a DJ mostly is done by the owner. crowd local people like policeman, firefighters..etc.
